Learning technology needs to change
Chris Mansfield and Omar Mughal saw a problem in the adult learning space. Online teaching tools weren’t keeping up with the needs of employees in a mobile-dominated world, let alone fostering engagement and continuous learning. The pair knew a thing or two about building successful businesses and teams, between Mansfield’s background in the world of venture-backed technology companies and Mughal’s track record across banking and finance. So when they saw this need for better online learning tools for modern employees, they knew they could fill it. And GoodCourse was born.

Chris and Omar saw two main factors creating problems in the business education space. First, the fight for our attention is only getting more intense, with social media, streaming media, and endless sources of news and entertainment available 24/7 on the smartphones we carry everywhere. Second, Millennials and Gen Zers have higher expectations when it comes to the learning experience. “Important topics tend to get low engagement from learners. We found different ways of building TikTok-style content could be a better way to go about it,” Chris explained.

Chris and Omar did their homework, and didn’t find anything quite like GoodCourse for corporate- and university-level solutions. They knew they could fill a gap in the market with their approach to learning technology.

Innovation enabled by a tech stack

The team at GoodCourse didn’t need a tech stack that would allow them only to keep up with the quickly changing digital learning landscape. They needed the tools to stay one step ahead of the curve.

Chris and Omar were familiar with no-code tools built to focus on a specific part of application development, but what they needed was a true full-stack environment. Then they tried Bubble. “Bubble was the only platform that could end-to-end host our web application rather than trying to stitch together multiple tools at once,” Chris said. The team knew that if they could build everything on a single platform, it would go a long way towards streamlining development.

“Bubble lets us future-proof against the constant evolution of the learning technology market.”

With Bubble, they were able to iterate quickly and without creating dependencies on legacy technology. The platform helped them stay agile. “We can react to and incorporate new trends much faster on Bubble,” Chris explained.

Chris and his engineers embraced Bubble’s visual design language. They were able to work faster without any limitations on what they could build. Over time, Bubble allowed them to spend more time meeting customer needs, improving GoodCourse with user feedback, instead of wasting time building undifferentiated features from scratch.

A mobile tool for modern learning

“We’re able to quickly assimilate what’s happening in the broader tech space. Bubble is our competitive advantage.”

Great products need to be user friendly. But Chris and the team quickly found that engaging learners in today’s world means more than just having a great UI. Seamless, intuitive design, comprehensive analytics, and flexible configuration options are table stakes for modern business buyers. Building out a complete, production-ready solution in less than 18 months demanded a platform that allowed them to develop at pace and with flexibility.

Using Bubble’s API connector for Twilio, PostMark, and Sertifier integrations, Chris’ team built a TikTok-style tool offering new ways for modern learners to thrive. “Our clients are large, sophisticated organizations looking to engage either their staff or students with micro-learning courses and content,” he explained. “Their needs change as trends do, and Bubble lets us future-proof against the natural evolution of the learning technology market.” The GoodCourse platform automatically tracks engagement and learning outcomes at a granular level, enabling customers to understand what messaging, content, and channels are resonating with which learners - and to quickly iterate from there.

Make your tech stack your competitive advantage

Innovation can mean making something completely new from almost nothing. But, as Chris explained, innovation often takes the form of bringing together the best of what’s already out there. “With Bubble, we’re able to incorporate such a large range of use cases into dev work that we can quickly assimilate what’s happening in the broader tech space,” he said. “Bubble is key to our competitive advantage.”
